Ba’t tameme? Sotto curious why Duque is silent on Philhealth corruption scandal

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III wants to know why Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has remained silent about the corruption allegations hounding the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth).

In an online news briefing Tuesday (August 10), Sotto said it was imperative upon Duque to speak out about the alleged anomalies hounding Philhealth since he chairs the agency.

“It is quite interesting na bakit wala siyang comment, ‘di ba? Nakapagtataka na ikaw ay on top of the PhilHealth, ikaw ay secretary of Health, dapat mayroon kang concern, so may statement ka one time or another sa issues of corruption in the Philhealth itself,” he said.

“Nakapagtataka na hindi siya nagko-comment,” Sotto added.

The Senate is currently investigating alleged corruption within Philhealth, including the supposed existence of a “mafia” which profits from transactions entered into by the state health insurer.

Former Philhealth anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes Keith has claimed that Philhealth officials have pocketed about P15 billion due to corruption.
