Sabik pumasok! Abby Binay reports 100 percent enrollment in Makati’s public schools
Makati Mayor Abby Binay has announced that the city already achieved 100 percent enrollment in its public elementary, junior, and senior high schools, for school year 2020-2021.
In a statement, Binay said the city has exceeded last year’s record of enrollees as 77,339 students enrolled for school year 2020-2021.
“To me, this mirrors the enthusiasm and drive of our students to continue learning. To our students, know that we are behind you all the way,” she said.
DepEd-Makati Schools Division Superintendent Carleen Sedilla has confirmed that as of July 22, 2020, public schools in the city under the supervision of DepEd-Makati, from elementary to senior high school, already registered a total of 77,339 enrollees. These include kindergarten and Special Education (SpEd) learners.
She noted that the said figure does not include an estimated 2,000 enrolees in the Alternative Learning Education System (ALS), and around 5,000 enrollees in the Higher School ng UMak (HSU), as these were still being consolidated.
According to Sedilla, enrolment in the city’s public schools will remain open until August 24, 2020 to accommodate late enrollees.
Earlier, Mayor Abby announced that some 2,500 teachers in Makati public schools from elementary to senior high school will each receive a brand new laptop for school year 2020-2021. The number may go as high as 2,800 to include newly-hired teachers, she added.
