Tom Villarin says ABS-CBN shutdown a complete deja vu

President Rodrigo Duterte really takes after the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, according to this politiko.

Former Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin called out how the Duterte administration’s shutdown of ABS-CBN was reminiscent of the events during martial law, when the Kapamilya channel was also forced to turn black for years.

“ABS-CBN shutdown taken from a Marcos playbook –– ‘The supporters say it shows the seriousness of (Marcos) determination to make the Philippines ‘a community of equals.’ The critics say it shows the making of a new oligarchy, dominated by the Marcoses,” he said, quoting a phrase from an old New York Times report from 1975.

Is it deja vu? He believes so.
