Para ‘di kawawa! Emi Calixto-Rubiano orders tents set up for stranded NAIA passengers
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano has ordered tents to be set up inside the Villamor Air Base Elementary School (VABES) to accommodate stranded passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Calixto-Rubiano said 20 tents have been put up inside the school, with each capable of accommodating eight persons with enough physical distancing among them. Classrooms have also been utilized to shelter the stranded passengers.
Food and other essentials are being provided to the travelers by the local government, the national government, civic organizations and by Barangay 183 where VABES is located.
The mayor appealed to passengers to first confirm their flights before proceeding to the airport, and to airline companies to establish Help Desks that would inform and guide the travelers on what steps they should take in the event of flight cancellation or re-scheduling.
“I am likewise airing my appeal again to the airline company officials: Please help your passengers and not just pass this obligation of your companies to the Pasay LGU and the National Government. You should ensure these people’s basic provisions and accommodation in the event of cancellation or re-scheduling of their flights, and put up help desks that would assist them on what they should do as they await the re-scheduling and confirmation of their flights to their provinces,” Calixto-Rubiano said.
