Precious Castelo points out muddled freedoms in Anti-Terror Bill
Precious Castelo explained why she voted against the Anti-Terrorism Bill.
The Quezon City congresswoman knew she had to reject the measure as soon as she read its provisions, which she discovered to be problematic and put certain freedoms in limbo.
“While we recognize national security concerns and respect my colleagues, the right and liberty of an individual cannot be interpreted differently at a different time by different people. Freedom should always be clear and not subject to debate,” the politiko said, a vote of conscience.
“When there is a thin line between state power and basic right, you vote on the side of democratic freedom where all rights emanate,” she added.
