114K beneficiaries in 1 week: Makati residents swiftly get P5,000 cash aid from Abby Binay
The city government of Makati has distributed P5,000 cash aid to 114,828 residents in just one week, Mayor Abby Binay said.
In a statement, Binay credited the efficient release of cash aid to the use of Gcash, Globe Telecoms’ virtual wallet.
Since Binay’s announcement of the Makatizen Economic Relief Program (MERP), over 250,000 individuals have registered for Gcash to receive financial assistance.
Of this number, 10,000 were rejected due to incorrect or incomplete information. Representatives from the city hall will contact them to find out how their application could be approved.
Binay assured that the city government has adequate budget to give all Makati residents P5,000 cash assistance amid COVID-19 crisis, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
To qualify for financial assistance, a resident must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter or have either the city’s Makatizen Card or Yellow Card.
