Tama na toma! Toby Tiangco imposes liquor ban in Navotas
Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has banned the sale and consumption of liquor in the city for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine.
Tiangco said the liquor ban, formalized under Executive Order N0. 027 issued on April 12, seeks to prevent public gatherings and avoid further spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Some constituents remain stubborn and continue to challenge the practice of social distancing and rules on home quarantine, thinking that drinking sessions among neighbors are a harmless way of passing time,” he said.
Tiangco said the liquor ban also aims to discourage people from spending the cash aid they received from government to buy alcoholic drinks.
“Violators will be apprehended and charged accordingly while liquors and other intoxicating beverages will be confiscated,” he added.
