Bawal na toma! Isko Moreno imposes liquor ban in Manila
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has signed an ordinance banning the sale and consumption of liquor in the city amid the enhanced community quarantine due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Moreno said the enforcement of a liquor ban is in line with the General Welfare Clause in the Local Government Code of 1991, which givews local government units the authority to impose emergency measures during a crisis or calamity.
He expressed dismay over the violators of the curfew and social distancing rules amid the quarantine, with some holding drinking sessions outside their home.
The mayor warned that establishments that will continue to sell liquor despite the ban will have their business permits revoked.
