Valenzuela City Rep. Wes Gatchalian has called on companies to help Filipinos at the frontline of fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak amid the enhanced community quarantine declared by President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement Tuesday, March 17, Gatchalian said businesses should exercise their corporate social responsibility at this time.

“These companies have the whole gamut of resources under them and they are just waiting to be tapped for assistance,” Gatchalian, Chairman of the House Committee on Trade and Industry said.

The lawmaker suggested that the government can have a “fruitful collaboration” with big businesses to help frontliners such as policemen manning checkpoints and healthcare workers.

“I am certain that any donations sought for and given freely will be met with outstretched arms, especially that our own President has openly encouraged it during his address to the public of an Enhanced Community Quarantine. Any uncertainty of moral or ethical concern must give way to the primordial intent to fulfil a social and civic responsibility,” he said.
