Baka lalong maghinalo? Mike Defensor urges gov’t run hospitals to launch motorcycle ambulances
Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor believes having motorcycle ambulances will help in saving lives in emergency situations.
Defensor on Sunday, March 8, called on government-run hospitals to invest in motorcycle ambulances, which he said will be able to respond to medical emergencies faster than its four-wheeled counterparts.
“They are able to arrive on the scene quicker and begin critical intermediate life support for patients before the arrival of slower conventional ambulances,” he said.
“Every agency engaged in delivering emergency services to the public should now fire up motorcycle ambulances that are driven either by certified first responders or certified paramedics,” Defensor added.
The lawmaker said other entities which could launch motorcycle ambulances include the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Bureau of Fire Protection as well as the public safety department of every city and municipal government.
Defensor earlier filed House Resolution 306, pushing for the deployment of motorcycle ambulances, or “ambucycles,” that would be set out in two-person teams.
Every team would be equipped with essential life-saving supplies, such as a first aid kit, portable automated external defibrillator, intravenous fluids, suction devices, firefighting and rescue gear and emergency radios, among others.
