Pwede pang kumita! Isko Moreno signs ordinance requiring fast food chains to hire seniors, PWDs
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has signed an ordinance requiring fast food chains in the city to hire senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Ordinance No. 8598 requires each branch of fast-food chains in Manila to provide temporary employment for qualified senior citizens and PWDs for not more than six months.
The senior citizens and PWDs employed by fast food chains will receive the minimum wage provided under the Labor Code. They will work for a minimum four hours for at least four days each week.
The ordinance, however, prohibits companies to assign tasks to senior citizens and PWDs that are hazardous to their health and are beyond their physical capabilities.
The city government will form a technical working group to create the implementing rules and regulations of the ordinance.
