Para iwas krimen: QC sets aside P3.7B for new street lights

The Quezon City government has earmarked P3.7 billion to install 24,880 street lights in all of the city’s six districts within five years.

The street lighting program, which will start this year, is aimed at deterring crime, ensuring safety of residents and maintaining peace and order.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said a well-lit community is essential to the security of residents.

A task force under the direct supervision of the city administrator will be established to oversee the installment, retrofitting, repair and maintenance of the city’s lights.

The Task Force Streetlighting shall set guidelines, conduct inventory and the turnover of operational streetlights to concerned barangays for proper monitoring and maintenance.

It will also coordinate with Meralco all matters pertaining to the application and connection of electricity.
