QC council to launch probe on 15-year-old’s suicide inside mall

The Quezon City Council is set to launch an investigation into the suicide of a 15-year-old student inside a mall in the city on January 25.

Councilors Irene Belmonte, Lala Sotto and PM Vargas, chairpersons of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Committee on Health and Committee on Infrastucture, respectively, will spearhead the probe.

The inquiry is expected to focus on mental health issues among the youth and find means on how to address them.

Aside from mall officials, the council will also invite school authorities and experts to get insights on addressing adolescent mental health issues.

According to reports, the student went to the 7th floor of the mall’s parking building and took his life at around 5:55 p.m.

This is the second recorded case of adolescent suicide inside a mall in Quezon City. Last year, a senior high school student jumped to his death from the fifth floor of SM North Edsa’s annex building.
