Parang Duterte! Isko gets top schools to pay P150M taxes

Three big U-belt schools gave in to Mayor Isko Moreno’s persuasion to pay their dues with city hall.

Manila will end the year at least P150 million richer thanks to this tax amnesty program rolled out by the mayor. Through it, big firms like the University of the East, Far Eastern University, and Mapua University have succumbed and finally issued checks to settle tax deficiencies to the Manila City government.

In a move reminiscent of President Rodrigo Duterte’s pressure on cigarette company Mighty, the three gave in to Moreno’s demand, with UE bearing the brunt with back taxes from 2009 to 2018 worth P100 million.
