Kabayan solon says Duterte a ‘real commander in chief’ for ending martial law
Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo on Tuesday hailed the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte not to extend martial law in Mindanao.
“We have today a real commander-in-chief, who is both decisive and cares for his men in uniform,” he said.
“President Duterte and the generals rallied the troops and the PNP to victory against the destabIlizers and terrorists in Mindanao,” Salo said.
“Every visit President Duterte made to Mindanao served to boost the morale of the soldiers and PNP-SAF. Truly a leader who earned the respect and trust of the armed services,” he added.
“I also congratulate the implementors of martial law – the DILG, PNP, DND, and AFP for successfully achieving their objective of weakening the terrorist and extremist rebellion, as a result of the capture or neutralization of terrorist leaders and the decrease in crime index,” he said.
On Tuesday, Duterte’s spokesperson announced that he would no longer extend martial law in Mindanao.
“The Office of the President wishes to announce that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will not extend martial law in Mindanao upon its expiration on December 31, 2019,” Salvador Panelo told a Malacañang briefing.
Duterte “made the decision following the assessment of his security and defense advisers of the weakening of the terrorist and extremist rebellion, a result of the capture or neutralization of their leaders, as well as the decrease in the crime index, among the factors considered,” the Palace official said.
“Contrary to the suppositions of the vocal minority on the proclamation of martial law in Mindanao, this decision of the President shows how he responds to the situation on the ground,” Panelo said said.
