Cayetano gloats, offers to be ‘consultant’ for Vietnam hosting in 2021

Despite hiccups over the hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, its chief organizer, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, sounded victorious in a speech on Sunday night following near-universal praise for the grand opening ceremonies last Saturday.

“We hope that last night you enjoyed the show,” the chair of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) said at a gala dinner.

Cayetano boasted that he received congratulations from officials of the next SEA Games host, Vietnam, whose capital of Hanoi will organize the 2021 SEA Games.

“So, we are gathered today in this gala night to welcome you with all our hearts and to wish all the teams best and we hope that this hosting—inspiration to others—I’ve spoken to the Vietnamese officials because they congratulated us on the opening last night,” he said.

“And I told them ‘If I need to take a leave of absence and be your consultant for your hosting, because your hosting is as important as our hosting. Because we, in Southeast Asia, we are one, we work as one, we win as one,’” Cayetano said.
