Defensor: As co-chair of drugs body, Robredo will have ‘full grasp’ of situation

Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor on Tuesday expressed approval of the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte to Vice President Leni Robredo to co-chair the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, saying it would give her a better grasp of the drugs situation in the country.

“As Co- Chairperson, the Vice- President will have full perspective of the drug situation and can assert her position as regards the drug campaign and how it should be executed,” Defensor said.

He said Robredo will now be working with the intelligence and enforcement agencies “rather than observing it from the outside and not having a full grasp of the situation.”

“I wish her, the President and all the agencies involved well and pray that we confront the drug situation with full resolve with one voice and as one team,” the lawmaker said.

Duterte signed Robredo’s appointment paper on October 31.

He earlier asked Robredo to be his drug czar and give her full powers to run the government’s war on drugs for six months, but later changed the offer of a temporary post to be full-time Cabinet position.
