Charisse Abalos: ‘Mental health same as physical fitness’
If you see a doctor for cough and colds, there’s nothing wrong for seeing a professional for a troubled mind.
Mandaluyong Councilor Charisse Abalos-Vargas revived her calls for improved mental health awareness, as she hopes to end the stigma and have more people understand struggling minds and souls.
“Mental Illness should have the same priority as physical fitness. If we have to maintain proper diet, sleep and water intake for our bodies, then we also need meditation, outlets and test for our mind. Seek help, reach out,” Abalos said as she shared the story of a parent who lost her son for mental health issues left unaddressed.
Going to a psychiatrist doesn’t mean someone has gone crazy — in fact, it’s the correct response.
