‘Mayor Bae’ charms baby: Vico Sotto tries hand at giving oral polio vaccine

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is using his fame to encourage more parents to vaccinate their children against polio.

Sotto joined the Department of Health’s kickoff Monday for the “Patak Kontra Polio,” a synchronized polio vaccination campaign.

In Pasig City, the mayor tried his hand at giving the oral polio vaccine to a baby.

Sharing a photo of him at the event on Facebook, Sotto said he gave the vaccine under the supervision of Health Undersecretary Dr. Mario Villaverde, who also happened to be his former professor.

He then appealed to the public to help bring back the trust in Food and Drug Administration-approved vaccines.

“Para sa kalusugan ng ating mga sarili at pati ng buong komunidad, pumunta lang po sa mga #healthcenter; magbabahay-bahay din ang mga health worker natin kasama ang DOH para sa anti-polio,” Sotto said.

Polio is a highly contagious disease caused by the polio virus. It can result in life-long paralysis and even death.
