Former Marikina Congressman Miro Quimbo said the recent attack at Abante’s printing press is “unacceptable.”

The long-time politiko was wary to hear that unidentified men broke inside the top tabloid’s office and started a fire, causing damage to the equipment and hurting two staff members.

Quimbo equated it to an attack to press freedom.

“I’ve had my fair share of critics from the media, some of which were unfair, but I came to accept it as part of the checks and balance mechanism of our democracy,” he said.

“A free media is necessary to ensure that government and its officials act with accountability,” Quimbo added.
