No worries! Abby Binay welcomes Makati’s inclusion as one of Southeast Asia’s top 10 safest cities
Makati mayor Abby Binay has lauded the city’s inclusion as one of Southeast Asia’s safest cities, and the second safest city in the country next to Davao.
Based on the 2019 Safety Index by the international online research group Numbeo, Makati is the fourth safest city in Southeast Asia.
Makati’s ranking improved from fifth place last year.
Binay credited the imporvement to the cooperation between the police and local government.
“We regard national government agencies such as the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection as our indispensable partners in keeping Makati safe for residents, the business community and all other stakeholders,” she said.
Binay said the local government puts a preimum on safety and security since Makati is considered the country’s financial capital.
Topping Numbeo’s list of safest cities in Southeast Asia is Chiang Mai, Thailand; followed by Davao City, Philippines; Singapore; Hanoi, Vietnam; Penang, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; Iloilo, Philippines; Bali, Indonesia and Cebu, Philippines.
