Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice has gone soft on the blame game after Kris Aquino lambasted him for dragging her brother into former senator Mar Roxas’ loss in the 2016 presidential race.
In a statement Monday, Erice said it was not his intention to blame former President Benigno Aquino III for Roxas’ failure to clinch the presidency.
“I am very close to him. I believe he did a great for our country,” the lawmaker said of the former President.
Erice incurred Kris’ ire for saying Roxas’ 2016 loss could be attributed to his closeness to the former President and the decision to wear yellow on the campaign trail.
Yellow is the color of the Liberal Party, to which Roxas and Noy belong.
The lawmaker, who is Roxas’ campaign manager in his 2019 senatorial bid, said his controversial answer was merely a response to a reporter’s question on why the former senator is now wearing blue.
“I simply replied to a question of why we are now wearing blue. And my simple and honest reply was to establish our own identity, and I think one of the mistakes of 2016 was the perception that Mar is the Robin and Robin can never be a Batman,” he said.
Erice said he and Roxas will always be “true blue Liberals who will “stand with the party.”
“There might be differences in strategies in coping with the present situation, but the principles remain and embedded in our hearts, in our minds, and in our souls,” he said.
