Oca Malapitan washes hands off ban on short shorts: Panahon pa ni Echiverri ‘yan!
Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan has clarified that he had nothing to do with a local ordinance requiring residents to wear “decent” attire in government offices, which some took to mean to be a ban on short shorts.
In a statement, the local government said Ordinance No. 0439-2007 imposing a dress code in public places was passed during the time of Malapitan’s predecessor, former mayor Recom Echiverri.
“[The ordinance] was authored by a former city councilor and passed by the previous administration. This was not approved during Malapitan’s time,” the city government said.
Malapitan said he has already ordered the city councilors to update the controversial ordinance.
“For me, I really want the ordinance to be repealed as I stand for equal rights to freedom and I believe’ that all women should be respected no matter what they wear,” he said.
