Parusa sa perwisyo! Senate panel wants Manila Water, MWSS sanctioned over water crisis
By Marie P. Ruiz
The Senate public services committee , chaired by Senator Grace Poe is set to release a preliminary report on the water crisis that hit Metro Manila and parts of Rizal Province.
Poe said what they gathered during Tuesday’s senate hearing was sufficient for her committee to recommend that Manila Water compensate consumers affected by unannounced massive water interruptions and a revamp at the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
The panel’s report would also recommend who should compose the MWSS as the industry requires the expertise of civil engineers, finance and recognized labor leaders, as stated in its charter.
Poe noted that the current board is composed of two retired military and police officials, a chemical engineer and lawyers.
Poe added the MWSS should be at the forefront of averting a crisis.
