Amid the water supply crisis affecting some parts of Metro Manila, President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday sought guidance and good practice examples in water management from Singapore.
Duterte issued the remark during the presentation of credentials of Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho Wei Hong in Malacañang.
“We need a lot of advice from Singapore and I’m sure those advices will go a long way to help us solve our problem especially water,” the chief executive told Ho.
“I know Israel and Singapore [have] the best operating machines about desalination,” he added.
Duterte earlier ordered the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System to direct Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to release 150 days worth of water from Angat Dam to address the problem of water shortages in the region.
