Pinirata na, pinagkakitaan pa! Ex-OMB chair Ronnie Ricketts convicted of graft for releasing seized DVDs
Former Optical Media Board (OMB) chairman and actor Ronnie Ricketts has been convicted over the illegal release of seized pirated DVDs and VCDs in 2010.
The Sandiganbayan 4th Division has issued a decision which found Ricketts guilty of graft and sentenced him to imprisonment ranging from six to years as well as imposed his perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
The case stemmed from the May 27, 2010 raid conducted by the OMB at the office of Sky High Marketing Corporation in Manila where pirated DVDs and VCDs were seized.
Under the case, Ricketts and his co-defendants are accused of using their positions and conspiring with one another for releasing the confiscated DVDs and VCDs that same day.
Apart from failing to file appropriate charges, the release of the confiscated DVDs and VCDs compromised the pieces of evidence that could support the indictment of Sky High and its officers and employees.
“The only conclusion that can be drawn from this is that the accused committed acts with the clear intent to favor Sky High Marketing, since the seized DVDs were returned together with the seized truck and prevent the government from properly initiating an investigation against the said entity,” read the anti-graft court’s decision.
