Pasyalan na, magiging bato pa! Winnie Castelo opposes Bingbong Crisologo’s plan for a sports stadium at QC Circle
Quezon City Rep. Winnie Castelo opposes the plan of his colleague, Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo, to build a sports stadium inside the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
Castelo, who chairs the House committee on Metro Manila development, said the park is an “inappropriate” location for the stadium because it would “compromise” the Circle’s natural beauty.
“The real purpose of that park is for tranquility and serenity. It’s a passive park where park-goers can promenade,” he said.
Crisologo, who is running for mayor of Quezon City against Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, proposed building a sports stadium at the Quezon City Memorial Circle so that the city will have a structure similar to those in Manila, Caloocan, San Juan and Makati.
Castelo, however, said building a stadium will not only ruin the park’s beauty, but will also cause additional problems such as traffic jams.
“A coliseum would require parking that the present park space cannot provide. This would just create chaos of big proportions,” he said.
