Para ‘di lang bilyonaryo manalo! JV cites fund raising woes, says Comelec should strictly implement campaign spending limits
Senator JV Ejercito said the Commission on Elections should be strict in implementing the campaign spending cap in the 2019 elections to ensure a level playing field between the haves and have nots.
Ejercito said that imposing a hard cap on campaign spending would be the best way to address the dominance of political dynasties and bilyonaryos in elections.
“Napakamahal na pong kumandidato sa national position, I have to be honest with you. Sa political ads pa lang talagang nahihilo na ako,” said Ejercito in the GMA senatorial debate.
Under Republic Act 7166 of 1991, senatorial bets are only allowed to spend up to P3 per voter or P165 million for the entire 55 million voters.
Ejercito had previously tweeted about his campaign fund raising woes:
Ejercito, who left his father’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino because he didnt like to run alongside his half-brother Jinggoy, said he wished his critics were right i claiming he has a “hidden wealth” because he would not have any problems keeping up with the ad spending of rich rivals.
