Cynthia Villar hits Duterte’s cleanup drive for Manila Bay: Lilinisin pero pwede naman reclamation!
Senator Cynthia Villar has slammed President Rodrigo Duterte for ordering the rehabilitation of Manila Bay while turning a blind eye on the reclamation activities that will soon start in the area.
In an interview in Tondo Tuesday (February 5), Villar said the government should be clear on its vision for Manila Bay.
“Gusto mong linisin ang Manila Bay tapos ia-allow mo ang reclamation. Eh bakit mo pa lilinisin kumg tatabunan mo lang rin naman? I cannot understand. They should be clear on their policies,” she said.
It was Duterte who ordered the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Interior and Local Government, and Tourism to spearhead the rehabilitation of Manila Bay, just like what they did in Boracay.
The rehabilitation of Manila Bay started late last month.
Villar, whose husband Manny owns the real estate giant Vista Land and Cityscapes, vowed to oppose any reclamation activity that will encroach on the Las Piñas-Parañaque wetland park.
The area is part of the Villars’ bailiwick, Las Piñas City.
“Basta ako, ipe-preserve ko ang Las Piñas-Parañaque wetland park. Any desire na sirain ‘yun, lalaban ako,” the senator said.
