SC set to hear petition for nurses’ salary hike
The Supreme Court (SC) is set to hear the petition of Ang Nars party-list which questioned the reduced pay of government nurses.
The SC has issued an advisory which stated that the oral arguments over the petition is scheduled to be held this February 26.
In its petition, Ang Nars party-list asked the SC to uphold the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002 which pegged the minimum base pay of government nurses at Grade 15 or P29,010 per month.
The petition challenged the issuance in 2009 of Executive Order No. 811 which reduced the base pay of nurses from Salary Grade 15 to Salary Grade 11 which is P20,179 per month.
The executive order was made after Congress issued Joint Resolution No. 4 which allowed the President to modify the compensation and classification of civilian personnel.
