The Sangguniang Panglungsod of Makati will hold three special sessions this week to pass the city’s P18.17-billion budget for 2019.
The city council wil meet on January 29, 31 and February 1 at the Makati City Hall main building to discuss the appropriations ordinance on Mayor Abby Binay’s orders.
In another memorandum signed on January 22, Abby certified Draft Ordinance 2018-064, which contains Makati’s executive budget for 2019, as urgent.
Abby decided to step in after councilors allied with her brother, former Makati mayor Junjun Binay, snubbed the council’s session last week, leading to a lack of quorum for the city budget’s passage.
The councilors who were absent at the session last week were: Shirley Aspillaga, Grazielle Iony de Lara-Bes, Ferdinand Eusebio, Leonardo Magpantay, Romeo Medina, Nelson Pasia, Arlene Ortega, Mary Ruth Tolentino, Marie Alethea Casal-Uy, at Evelyn Delfina Villamor.
The majority floor leader, Councilor Nemesio Yabut, Jr., and Appropriations committee chair Councilor Divina Jacome, attended the session last week but are known to be allied with Junjun.
The Binay siblings will be running against each other for mayor in the May midterm elections.
