Pati barangay nadadamay! Armand Padilla hits pro-Junjun Binay councilors for holding Makati’s budget hostage
The president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Makati has scored councilors allied with former mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay for holding the city’s budget hostage due to politics.
Councilor Armand Padilla said barangays and Sangguniang Kabataan councils cannot implement their programs for 2019 until the P18.17-billion appropriations ordinance is passed.
“I urge the majority councilors to set politics aside so the city’s budget for 2019 can be passed,” he said.
Padilla noted that at present, barangays have no choice but to operate on a reenacted budget due to the city council’s failure to pass the appropriations ordinance.
The budget for Makati’s 33 barangays for 2019 is estimated at P1.7 billion.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod has yet to pass the city budget despite holding sessions on January 9 and 16.
The pro-Junjun councilors who have been deferring deliberations on the budget bill are Councilors Nemesio Yabut Jr., Divina Jacome, Shirley Aspillaga, Grazielle Iony De Lara-Bes, Ferdinand Eusebio, Leonardo Magpantay, Romeo Medina, Arlene Ortega, Nelson Pasia, Mary Ruth Tolentino, Marie Alethea Casal-Uy and Evelyn Delfina Villamor.
