Ordinary pero lodi! John Rey Tiangco honors outstanding fishermen on Navotas’ foundation day
Ten fishermen were recognized by the local government of Navotas on the occasion of the city’s 113th founding anniversary.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco led the recognition of the fisherfolk last week, which coincided with the celebration of the Araw ng Mangingisda.
Among the 10 fishermen recognized by the city government were Manuelito Villanueva mula sa Brgy. Tanza 2; Alexander Gonzales, Brgy. Navotas West; Jodolfo Paz, Brgy. Tangos South; Isagani Miller, Brgy. San Roque; at Jose Billy Garcia, Brgy. Tangos North.
Also given awards were Menandro Tongco mula sa Brgy. Navotas West; Regulo Bacongan, Nomer Aligaya at James Ong mula sa Brgy. Tanza 2; at Roque Lerma, Brgy. San Jose.
“Malaki ang respeto natin sa mga mangingisdang Navoteño. Dapat lamang tularan ang kanilang pagsisikap at pagsasakripisyo para masuportahan ang kanilang pamilya. Karapat-dapat na sila ay bigyan ng parangal at pagkilala,” Tiangco said.
Aside from receiving gifts from the city government, the children of the outstanding fishermen are eligible to be part of the Navotas Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship Program.
Scholars under this program receive transportation and food allowance amounting to P16,500 yearly, as well as a P1,500 book stipend.
