Erap backs Diokno amid House’s call for dismissal: Boss niya rin ako!
Former President and now Manila mayor Joseph Estrada has thrown his support behind Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno amid the House of Representatives’ call for him to be fired.
Estrada said he has no doubt about Diokno’s professionalism and integrity since they worked together when he was President and the latter was his Budget Secretary.
“Tatlong Pangulo na ng bansa ang pinagsilbihan ni Secretary Diokno. Kaya siya pinagkakatiwalaan dahil hindi lamang ito tapat at mabuting tao, magaling pa ito sa kanyang trabaho,” he said.
Estrada said there was no basis for President Rodrigo Duterte to fire Diokno since the allegation that he illegally inserted P75 billion in the proposed 2019 national budget was baseless.
The House last week passed House Resolution 2365 urging Duterte to reconsider Diokno’s appointment in light of the anomalies in the proposed national budget and the 2018 General Appropriations Act.
House leaders have also accused Diokno of using his influence to grant more than P2 billion in funds to Sorsogon for infrastructure projects since it is the bailiwick of his daughter’s parents-in-law.
