Magpa-Pasko pa naman! Ruffy Biazon warns of port congestion after Lapeña’s removal from Custom
Muntinlupa City Rep. Ruffy Biazon has warned about congestion in the ports soon following Isidro Lapeña’s removal as Customs Commissioner.
Citing information from the grapevine, Biazon tweeted on Thursday that the processing of shipments may be delayed since President Rodrigo Duterte ordered all Bureau of Customs officials placed on floating status alongside Lapeña’s transfer to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
“Heard thru the grpevine.. as CommCus is relieved from BOC, an alert order is said to have been issued for 492 incoming containers. With all other officials placed on floating status, processing of those shipments may be delayed. Port congestion looming,” said the congressman, who used to be a Customs chief.
Duterte removed Lapeña from the BOC after he admitted that the four magnetic lifters found in Cavite in August may have contained shabu.
Lapeña’s statement, made during a hearing at the House of Representatives, was a turnaround from his denial that there were no illegal drugs in the containers.
Duterte has appointed Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Rey Leonardo Guerrero as the new Customs Commissioner.
