Tom Villarin wants entire fuel excise tax removed

It’s not enough to just postpone next year’s increase.

Akbayan Party-list Rep. Tom Villarin is calling for a more high-impact response from the Department of Finance in order to bring prices down.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s economic team signalled that the second round of excise tax hike on fuel products for 2019 will be postponed due to higher-than-expected global crude prices. This would mean that the additional tax of P2 per liter will not kick in, but the Villarin is not satisfied.

“#AKBAYANpartylist WANTS EXCISE TAX PROVISION IN TRAIN LAW REPEALED! With global oil price hikes seen as a primary driver of inflation, Rep. Tom Villarin wants the excise tax on petroleum products in the TRAIN Law repealed, restoring excise tax rates to pre-TRAIN levels,” the politiko said.

Villarin wants to remove the P2.50/liter fuel excise which took effect in 2018.
