They are the living proof of democracy in the Batasan.

Muntinlupa Congressman Ruffy Biazon looks forward to the State of the Nation Address season every year. Beyond dressing up and listening to the President’s speech, it also allows him to catch up with long-time politiko friends Gilbert Remulla and Baham Mitra.

The trio went to assert their rights as politiko at the Batasan floor.

“Seventeen years ago, we were neophyte members of the House of Representatives in the 12th Congress, part of a bunch that became known as the Martilyo Gang which stood up to what we believed was an overstep by the Majority in the House,” Biazon said.

“Being in the Minority, we learned how to stand up for what we believed in, despite certain defeat when the issue came to a vote.”

Being in the Minority, we learned how to stand up for what we believed in, despite certain defeat when the issue came to a vote. As one of our mentors and senior leaders in the minority said, “We are not here to win the vote. We are here to put into the records the opposing view which is vital in a democracy.” Gilbert Remulla and Baham Mitra, fine gentlemen.
