Villarin warns Catholic Church on dialogue with gov’t: It’s a trap!
Akbayan party-list Rep. Tom Villarin is cynical about the plan of government to hold a dialogue with the Catholic Church.
In a statement on Thursday, the politiko warned the Church to “not fall to the trap” of the Duterte administration.
“It should mobilize the flock to demand an end to impunity and for the rule of law to prevail amidst moves to destroy our institutions,” he said.
“Now is no longer the moment of study, reflection, and clarification of doctrine but a time of action,” he added.
He said the Church should steer the frustration of the faithful and anger to a call for unity, as they defend faith and justice.
Duterte has been receiving heavy flak over his controversial remarks about God and religion calling God “stupid” and questioning the individuals in the Last Supper.
On Tuesday Duterte formed a committee to hold a dialogue with the different religious groups in a bid to address the rift between him and the Church.
But in an interview with the media in Bohol Thursday, Duterte insisted that he would not apologize for what he had said.
“No I will not do that definitely, not in a million years,” he told reporters.
