Is it a go or no go for Atienza as Manila mayor?
Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza is not yet 100 percent sure whether or not he will run again for mayor in Manila this coming elections.
But Atienza said he will surely join the mayoralty race if the current leadership of Mayor Joseph Estrada “fails to act on its promises.”
“If the government does not change in Manila and ignores what we talk about here, when City Hall does not [act], what will we do? When the time to decide comes, I will ask you: ‘Are you going to be happy with this government?’ When you answer ‘no’, I will run,” the politiko said.
Atienza was a three-term Manila mayor from 1998 to 2007.
After his tenure as mayor, he was appointed Environment secretary by then-President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Estrada earlier declared that he will run for a third and final term. Former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim is also expected to run in the mayoralty race.
Atienza said anything can still happen within the next four months.
The filing of certificate of candidacy for the 2019 mid-term elections will be in October.
