Uy bago: Bistek inks ordinance establishing new senior high school

The new senior high school is named after a Filipino national artist.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista has signed an City Ordinance 2663-2018 establishing the Nick M. Joaquin Senior High School in memory of the National Artist for Literature.

It is located within the campus of Toro Hills Elementary School in Barangay Bahay Toro.

Introduced by Councilor Julienne Alyson Rae V. Medalla, the ordinance aims to provide senior high school students more facilities suitable for their chosen tracks in academic and technical-vocational livelihood.

The school will initially offer the following courses: academic tracks – accountancy, business and management strand, humanities and social sciences strand, and general academic strand: and technical-vocational livelihood tracks – animation/technical drafting strands.

The school was built in recognition of Joaquin’s significant contribution to Philippine literature and journalism.

Joaquin was a journalist, novelist, poet, playwright, historian and biographer who received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts in 1996.
