Bagong buhay: Inmates in QC get free ‘hilot’ training

Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte is giving inmates another chance at life.

This lady politiko has partnered with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to extend “hilot” native massage training course for detainees of Quezon City Jail.

It aims to develop their skills and be gainfully employed once they are released from detention.

At least 100 detainees were able to finish the 18-day “hilot” training.

“When they are released, they face an environment that is challenging and actively deters them from becoming productive members of society,” Belmonte said.

“So, we thought of teaching them useful skills that they could use to start a small business that need little or no capital at all,” she added.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has been helping Belmonte in her project.

“We really need to rethink the way we treat former criminal offenders. And it is our moral duty, every one of us, to welcome them back, give them another chance in life,” she said.
