Belmonte to conduct pre-poll seminar for SK bets: Turuan silang huwag maging corrupt

If you want to fight corruption, nip it in the bud.

This is the plan of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte as she is set to conduct a seminar aimed at teaching aspiring young politikos about good governance.

The seminar will be launched amid corruption concerns hounding the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections, which have been postponed twice by President Duterte.

“I think this prelection seminar is important so that the young people running for SK posts understand what the value of their work is all about,” the lady politiko said.

“I believe that this early we should keep them away from the path of dirty politics,” she added.

Belmonte said the seminar will also insulate the youth from the culture of corruption which has become prevalent in local governance.

She stressed that the government needs to exert time to cleanse the ranks of the SK officials and educate them about the value of good governance and leadership.

“Because the perception of running for elective posts, which we’re trying to change with our advocacy for good governance, is that it has something to do with power and wealth generation. I think we have to change that mindset,” she said.

“Ang gusto natin matuto sila kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng tunay na public service,” she added noting that government service is “all about servant leadership rather than power and wealth generation.”
