House approves barangay postponement bill on second reading

The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved on second reading the bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to November.

The bill was passed by a voice vote after lengthy interpellation by ACT Teachers partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio and Buhay partylist Rep. Lito Atienza.

House leaders wanted to postpone the elections, originally set in May, to give Congress more time to pass the Charter change measure that would federalize the government.

This would be the third postponement of the barangay and SK polls.

The polls are supposed to be held in May after earlier postponements in October 2016 and 2017.
