Duterte throwing in white towel on PH sovereignty – Anakpawis
Anakpawis partylist Rep. Ariel Casilao said the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte proposing “co-ownership” with China of Philippine territories in the West Philippine Sea was tantamount to throwing in the white towel in spite of the country’s strong legal claims.
“Thus, transgressions against national sovereignty would be on the president’s tab, including conversion of the Kagitingan reef, into a military facility by China,” he said in a statement.
“As the chief executive, he should be the staunchest defender of our territories, as invoked by the constitution, but he is at the opposite,” the Makabayan lawmaker said in a press statement.
“The logic that warring with China will definitely lead to a loss, as it is a superpower, is synonymous to giving up all our territories to a powerful aggressor,” Casilao said.
The lawmaker also assailed the planned joint maritime exploration with China which he viewed as a move to “auction our national resources to foreign entities.”
“Such commitments should be protested, the president is the highest official of the land but he has no position to let our territory handed to China or to other foreign nation. The Filipino people should reject Duterte’s neck-deep pledges to China, he could sell his soul to Xi Jinping, but he must not with the country’s territorial integrity,” Casilao said.
