Aray nako! UST expels 8 law students over Atio’s death
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has expelled eight civil law students implicated in the death of Horacio “Atio” Castillo III.
This was according to a Facebook post of the university’s official publication The Varsitarian on Sunday.
The expulsion came five months after Castillo’s death, which was believed to be due to the injuries he sustained during the initiation rites of the Aegis Juris Fraternity.
Castillo’s parents earlier filed a complaint against UST before the Vatican citing the university’s alleged inaction on their son’s case.
The Senate committee that conducted an investigation into the death of Castillo also recommended the disbarment of UST Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina.
At least 37 individuals were charged with murder, hazing and obstruction of justice before the Department of Justice in connection with Castillo’s death.
