Taguig Second District Rep. Pia Cayetano was overjoyed after the Philippines clinched the bid to be one of the hosts of the FIBA World Cup in 2023.

Pia, who is filling in for her brother, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, said the members of the Philippine contingent who made the presentation in Geneva are proud and happy over the country’s win.

“I’m proud to say we won the bid and congratulations to Sir Manny Pangilinan and the whole team did so much hard work,” Pia said in a Facebook video. “Of course, to our President (Rodrigo Duterte), who gave his support from the very beginning.”

The Philippines has been picked to host the FIBA World Cup, alongside Japan and Indonesia.

The tournament, which will see 32 teams battling out in the hardcourt, is eyeing the Philippine Arena, MOA Arena and Araneta Coliseum as venues.
