Eto na naman! Bicol farmers to stage rallies in Manila
After jeepney groups, farmer groups from the Bicol region are now planning to stage protests in Metro Manila.
At least 2,000 farmers from the six provinces of Bicol gathered at Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum in Naga City Monday, which serves as their meeting place going to Manila.
Dubbed “Lakbay Paraoma” (Journey of the Farmer), the farmers are planning to stage protests in Manila until Oct. 25.
The Bicol farmers are seeking for the passage of House Bill (HB) No. 555 or the genuine agrarian reform bill.
They also want an end to land-grabbing and killings of farmer leaders.
Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao said agrarian reform has been neglected by the past administrations and even President Duterte.
He chided the government for the four million hectares of land, which has yet to the distributed to some 2.7 million beneficiaries.
HB 555 seeks to distribute land to tillers for free, which covers all agricultural lands.
“Majority in Congress is scared to pass this bill because they own or protect thousands of hectares of land,” Casilao said. “They are scared they might lose it.”
Let’s get ready to rumble!
