The more the merrier! MMDA eyes carpooling to ease traffic on EDSA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is proposing a carpooling scheme to mitigate traffic on EDSA.
This is one of the measures being studied by the agency to decongest traffic in Metro Manila aside from two-day number coding scheme and one way scheme.
The measures were discussed during Tuesday’s meeting of MMDA with the Metro Manila Council (MMC), the agency’s policy-making body that consists of 17 Metro Manila mayors.
“We are encouraging the public to avail of carpooling to reduce the vehicles passing through the major roads in Metro Manila,” said Jojo Garcia, MMDA’s assistant general manager for planning.
Garcia said the scheme aims to ban cars with only one passenger to pass through EDSA.
MMDA data showed that 8 out of 10 vehicles passing through EDSA have only one occupant.
