Goodbye old jeeps, hello e-jeeps! LTO to launch e-jeepneys in Metro Manila

Commuters will soon be traversing Metro Manila streets on board high-tech electric solar jeepneys.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday inspected the e-jeepeneys that will be deployed in the metro as part of the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

The e-jeepneys, which have passed the specifications and standards set by the Bureau of Product Standards of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), are intended to traverse the routes of Ayala-Buendia-SM Mall of Asia to the Southwestern Integrated Transport Terminal in Paranaque City.

It will also pass through the stations of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Philippine National Railways in the southern and western parts of Metro Manila.

The PUV modernization program seeks to phase out old and dilapidated jeepneys and replace it with brand new ones viewed to be more eco-friendly and safe.
