Aguirre defends release of hazing suspect Solano
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has defended Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors for their decision to order the release of frat man John Paul Solano from police detention.
Aguirre gave the explanation himself to the family of dead hazing victim Horacio “Atio” Castillo III during their meeting at his office at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday (September 29).
“Hindi inquestable yung kaso kaya’t pinaliwanag ko sa kanila yun ang reason kung bakit pinalaya,” he recounted.
The Manila Police District (MPD) filed criminal complaints last September 25 before the DOJ against Solano and other persons believed involved in the death of the Aegis Juris neophyte.
During that time, the MPD had Solano subjected to inquest proceedings.
However, inquest can only be conducted before prosecutors against
persons who were arrested without warrant. Solano surrendered to the
MPD last September 22.
